Dedicated Occupational Therapist with a special interest in the treatment of children with barriers to learning.
 
Nicole is a certified Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI) therapist; a registered DIR® Floortime™ Practitioner and Tomaties®/Solisten® Practitioner.
 
After graduating from the University of Cape Town (UCT) with a BSc Occupational Therapy degree in 2007, Nicole completed her community service year at Ngwelezane Hospital, Empangeni. 
 

She went on to work at The London Children’s Practice in England before returning to Cape Town in 2009, to work at Step by Step Occupational Therapy Practice at Reddam House School, situated in Tokai, Cape Town.  She now owns and manages this practice. 

Nicole strives to ensure that each child she treats is better understood by his or her parents and class teacher, so that they are able to support their child optimally.  She encourages each child to be the best that they can be.

Passionate and energetic occupational therapist with a playful, fun-loving nature. 

Tayla is certified as an Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI) therapist.  

After graduating from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2018 with a BSc in Occupational Therapy, Tayla went on to complete her community service at Groote Schuur Hospital in the Western Cape. She began working at Step by Step Occupational Therapy Practice, situated in Tokai, Cape Town at the beginning of 2020. She believes in a collaborative approach to therapy, and that collective knowledge is one of the biggest strengths when working with children and their families. 

She loves working with children both individually and in groups. Her goal is to help children flourish academically and socially to make their schooling experience a positive one, as she strongly feels that schooling forms the basis of our lives and sets us up for further successes.

Stacey Trend

Gentle and empathetic occupational therapist who will go the extra mile for each child. 
 
Stacey is certified as an Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI) therapist. 
 
After qualifying at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2013, with a B. Occupational Therapy degree, Stacey went on to complete her community service in 2014 in Northern KZN at Vryheid District Hospital. She then went on to explore her interests in paediatrics by working in the field of school-based occupational therapy. In 2015, she worked in the government sector at Thuthukani Special School. This is where her love of children, special needs and school-based intervention was found. 
 
Stacey moved to a private school in Ballito in June 2016. By having more of a role in the classroom setting, she was able to see the true value of working in multidisciplinary setting in order to fully support the child.
Stacey began working at Step by Step Occupational Therapy Practice, situated in Tokai, Cape Town in 2017. She loves the wide variety of learning and training that working closely with other therapists provides. 
 
Stacey is passionate about working with children. She is a firm believer that working as a team for the child is the best way to help them reach their full potential.
Kelsey de Haas

Kelsey de Haas

Dedicated and child-led occupational therapist, with a playful and motivating nature.

Kelsey will have completed her sensory integration certification at the end of this year, in 2024. She is passionate and dedicated to staying updated with the latest advancements in the field, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care.

Kelsey obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of the Free State. Having successfully completed her Community Service year in 2022, Kelsey began her Step by Step journey in 2023.

Kelsey’s passion lies in working with children, particularly those facing challenges. With an energetic, playful, and intuitive approach, she believes in the power of collaboration within a multidisciplinary team. By involving all essential members, including parents, educators, and other healthcare professionals, Kelsey ensures that interventions are tailored to meet the unique needs of each child. She is enthusiastic about helping children overcome obstacles and thrive in their daily activities by connecting with them in their world and on their level.

Jessica Skead

Jess is certified as an Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI) therapist.
 
After graduating from Stellenbosch University in 2015, Jess completed her community service year at a rural hospital in Northern KZN. Following this, she was privileged to spend 6 years working within a multidisciplinary team at a renowned short-term remedial preschool and primary school in Durban. This environment allowed her to pursue her passion for paediatrics, focusing on the holistic development of each child.
 
She moved to Cape Town in 2023, to follow her dreams in representing South Africa as a synchronised swimmer. In between training, Jess stayed immersed in Paediatric OT working at a Private Practice in Plumstead. Jess joined the Step by Step team in 2024 and has enjoyed the holistic, team approach to each child.
 
Jess finds great joy in helping children overcome challenges and reach their full potential. She values the role of movement in a child’s development, as well as the importance of learning through play. As an avid athlete herself, Jess strives to be a positive influence and inspiration in the lives of the children she works with. She is committed to empowering parents with practical tools to better understand and support their children at home.
